The Last Dance Checklist

The Last Dance follows Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls of 1997/98 as they embark on the last leg of the NBA championship in their dynasty. Two episodes of the 10-part mini-series are broadcast each Sunday until May 19 on ESPN starting at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT). Those without a cable can easily connect to ESPN via a High Value Orange Sling TV Package, which is now reduced to just $ 20 for the first month.

Originally scheduled for June to coincide with the NBA 2020 final, the release date for The Last Dance was brought forward to April due to the pandemic. It is directed by veteran sports filmmaker Jason Hehir, who is also behind the critically acclaimed documentary Andre the Giant, and traces the final of the Chicago Bulls Dynasty Championship of the 90s and its mercurial leader, Michael Jordan.

With six NBA titles to his credit, Jordan is not only the best basketball player of all time – sorry not sorry, LeBron fans – but arguably the greatest athlete in the history of American sport. Only Tom Brady and Tiger Woods even get a seat at the same table.

What is The Last Dance?

Far from being a simple collection of highlighted films, The Last Dance offers new frank interviews and unpublished unseen sequences. The 1997/98 NBA season is explored to draw attention to Jordan’s dominant personality as well as his epic dunks. It will be his last year with the Bulls and the culmination of a return odyssey that began in 1995 when legend decided to pursue his ambitions as a professional baseball player in the MLB.

To compile all of this, an NBA Entertainment film crew went behind the scenes with the Bulls throughout the campaign, after obtaining approval from Jordan, Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf and head coach Phil Jackson.

And in addition to reminding us of why we desperately wanted to “ be like Mike ” in the 90s and line up for hours on end for the latest pair of Air Jordan sneakers, the documentary also focuses on other key members of the Bulls team – fellow Hall of Famous Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, as well as sniper Steve Kerr (now head coach of the Golden State Warriors).
