Ah, the happy month of June – a time when many of us are struggling to get our finances in order so that we can file our taxes on time. But it is also when Australian buyers are tempted by retail therapy with a plethora of bargains offered by several retailers who are looking to unload their old stocks and reach their sales targets.
The year-end sale is one of the biggest business events in Australia, with a wide range of products at very low prices, including cars, household appliances and, of course, consumer electronics.
Making purchases during year-end sales in Australia means that you will be able to make work-related purchases before filing your tax documents, as many discounted items will be deductible. EOFY 2020 sale: what and when?
Unlike the calendar year, the end of the fiscal year in Australia is June 30. This means that from July 1 to the end of October, individuals and businesses will need to file their tax forms with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Before that, retailers will rush to move old stocks to make room for new ones, and they will cut prices on many items, many of which will be tax deductible.
Australian sales of EOFY traditionally begin on June 1 and end on June 30, although many retailers tend to pop the pistol, offering a few tempting pieces to attract buyers. However, EOFY's best offers are in June, although not all retailers have a month's sales. In addition, the offers also change during the month, so you will have to keep checking to see if everything you need is reduced or not.
First EOFY 2020 offers
It's not quite June yet, but some EOFY offers have started arriving. These aren't the best deals we've seen, but the biggest discounts are coming soon. EOFY 2020 sale in Australia: what to expect
If you're looking to save money on electronics at the annual EOFY sale in Australia, you've come to the right place. We've been putting our finger on the pulse of tax deals for a few years now and can safely predict what you can get at a cheaper price.
So what type of technology can you find during EOFY Down Under sales? A lot. From computers to gaming equipment, the best flagship smartphones to personal audio. To get an idea of what to expect in 2020, let's take a look at what was on offer last year.
Laptops and PCs: Computer equipment has always been one of the most popular items to buy during EOFY. Manufacturers like Microsoft, Lenovo, Dell and HP will organize their own sales on their sites, but you can also get laptops and desktops from large retailers, with average discounts of around 15% to 20%. You can even get good deals on accessories, with printers, keyboards, SSDs and external hard drives on sale during this period.
Gaming
From Nintendo to Sony and Microsoft – there were a lot of big discounts on gaming equipment last year and we expect to see the same thing again in 2020. The best price we saw on the Switch during EOFY 2019 was AU $ 379, which isn't as low as it has disappeared in other big sales like Black Friday, but it's still quite a bargain. Some hit game titles will also be available cheaply, if you want to expand your game library, but keep an eye out for console sets.
Smartphones and tablets
While there isn't usually much variety when it comes to discounts on smartphones, there are still some very intriguing offers to consider at EOFY if you're looking to upgrade your handset. Last year we saw big discounts on Samsung's flagship products, as well as the Google Pixel 3, so if you're an Android user, you may be able to mark a new phone without paying the price of complete detail.
This is also a great time to see if you also need a tablet, because more often than not, they are also tax deductible if you use them for work.
Home entertainment and personal audio
There were a lot of TVs, sound bars and speakers on sale in the last two EOFY sales, and we don't expect this trend to change anytime soon. And with some great 4K UHD smart TVs that are already experiencing price drops outside of big sales, we can't wait to see how much more affordable they will be when sold at 2020 tax time.
It's not just home entertainment configurations that you can save, but portable Bluetooth speakers and the best wireless headphones. Premium audio products sell for around AU $ 500, but chances are you will see them well below the AU $ 400 mark. Although the reduced prices may not correspond to the Black Friday offers, the offers in tax period still see a good part of the changes recorded on premium products.
Cameras
EOFY sales are also an ideal time for photographers – beginners, pros or amateurs – to buy the latest equipment. Many cameras went on sale last year, particularly from Fujifilm and Nikon. In 2018, we saw the price of action cameras drop as well, so keep your eyes peeled for great deals on DSLRs, compacts and more. If you're happy with the camera body you already own but need accessories, we also expect lenses, tripods, filters, bags and SD cards to see decent price drops as well.
Smart home devices
These clever voice-activated products are flooding the market – from lights connected to the Internet to smart security systems, speakers and screens to control them all. Amazon reduced its Echo smart speaker line last year and we're sure it will happen again, along with other e-commerce giant smart devices, such as Philips Hue smart lamps. You'll also find many retailers also offering discounts on Google’s line of smart speakers.
Appliances
