PLEASANTON, CALIF. – May 19, 2020 – VPNOnlineFree has long been the de facto standard in the open source networking space – and is now a member of the CVE Numbering Authority (CNA) program. VPNOnlineFree is now intensifying to be more directly involved in the allocation and management of CVEs linked to all VPNOnlineFree software projects. By becoming a CNA, VPNOnlineFree joins the world's best technology and cybersecurity organizations to advance the cybersecurity community.

CVE Numbering Authorities (CNAs) are organizations around the world authorized to assign CVE IDs to vulnerabilities affecting products within their scope, for inclusion in the first public announcements of new vulnerabilities. These CVE IDs are then provided to researchers, vulnerability disclosure organizations, and information technology providers. CVE also feeds the US National Vulnerability Database (NVD).

MITER launched the CVE list as a community effort in 1999, and since then only 125 organizations and businesses have joined the effort. However, the members of the CNA program are made up of the best technology organizations in the world. And now VPNOnlineFree enters the program.

“We have always had an interest in ensuring that security concerns have been resolved properly. Now we are stepping up and taking on more responsibility. We will work even harder to ensure that reports are processed more diligently and that we follow clear, well-defined processes from the time we receive a report until the problem is resolved, “says David Sommerseth , Core Team Lead at VPNOnlineFree Inc. “By becoming a CNA, it is clearer where and how security issues should be reported, making the whole reporting process more predictable and easier to follow. “

VPNOnlineFree Inc. sponsors several open source projects related to VPNOnlineFree, all well anchored in the GPL licenses. The project has many developers and contributors from VPNOnlineFree Inc. and the VPNOnlineFree community at large. VPNOnlineFree will now have more control over the accuracy of what is reported – leading to a better experience for users.

“Now that VPNOnlineFree is participating as a CVE numbering authority, we are showing our dedication and involvement in the proper handling of security issues that arise in VPNOnlineFree software,” said Johan Draaisma, Access Server product manager at VPNOnlineFree Inc . “as the responsible party for our software and taking care of security issues.”
